EsKiMo is a nation-wide representative study of the nutrition of children and adolescents between 6 and 17 years of age.
The present contribution presents results relating to the fast food consumption of 1 272 adolescents between 12 and 17 years of age. Nearly all of them reported that they had eaten fast food at least once in four weeks, mostly pizza, eastern food (e.g. Döner Kebab) and burgers. Boys have been found to eat more fast food than girls. Their energy intake via fast food hence is higher than in girls. Fast food consumption is particularly high in boys between 16 and 17 years and in adolescents of immigrant families.
Keywords: fast food consumption, energy intake, adolescents, overweight, sexual distinction.
