In their attempt to change the nutritional behaviour of consumers, nutritional education and counselling have so far been concentrating on methods of behavioural prevention. This attempt has failed as the prevalence of nutritional diseases has not been reduced.
The question is discussed whether too much is asked of consumers who are expected to lastingly change their behaviourial management consumers who are exposed to the interactions between programmes of evolution biology and living conditions characterized by lack of physical activity and a trend towards overfeeding. The chance of a successful behavioural prevention will only grow when the “setting” is also changed by preventive measures concerning living conditions.
Key words: Prevention / behavioural prevention / living conditions
