Children can learn about healthy lifestyles in day care centres and in kindergarten, if the educational goals of the organisations are linked to daily routines which encourage a healthy lifestyle.

That is the result of a pilot phase of the project from the Platform on Nutrition and Exercise entitled “healthy day care • healthy kids”. Balanced nutrition, active play and enough rest, as well as a regular dialogue with parents about healthy living, are the building blocks for a healthy lifestyle in day care centres and kindergartens. Peb advocates a health enhancement approach. This means encouraging factors which are conducive to health, rather than focusing on any deficits or problems the children may have. The peb coaches help to implement measures conducive to a healthy lifestyle and this was shown to lead to significant improvements in day care and kindergarten routines.
