During the last 30 years, the prevalence of overweight in children and adolescents has increased. Overweight and diseases linked to nutrition are unequally distributed in different social groups. The lower the social status is, the more frequent are unhealthy lifestyles, overweight and comorbidities. It follows that the health of children and adolescents is also a social problem. Social inequality in overweight and health is thought to be due to inequalities within society of possibilities and resources, such as education, employment and income. Government and civil society are called upon to improve living conditions and to distribute resources more justly, as this could effectively improve the social differences in health, as well as the frequency of overweight in our society.
